Unit fifteen covers the topic of evaluation and testing with regard to the types of tests and their uses. Placement tests are administered at the beginning of a class to determine a students starting point; diagnostic tests are similar to placement tests but are more detailed to learn a students specific strengths and weaknesses; progress tests are utilized to measure what is taught; practice exams are used to prepare students for external exams; and external exams are used as a standard to measure language ability of students coming from a variety of backgrounds.
