This unit talks about the pros and cons of using course books as well as some examples of lesson materials. The course book section is not very useful as many Native english Speakers sign on with language centers that already have picked course books - Cambridge and Oxford have basically cornered the market. So it's really a moot point for tefl teachers. We don't get a say in the course book selection. It's up to the language centers and they usually go with whatever is profitable. Any of them that have bright colors to attract students will generally get the contract. It really doesn't matter because the students all photocopy them anyways so perhaps another point (we're talking about reality versus theory here) in the Analyzing a Course Book section is how it looks in black and white after it's photo copied by students in low income countries (Do the parents want to pay $5 for a color book or $0.50 for a xerox one so they can eat rice for dinner?).
