1) - The importance of writing out a lesson plan: this will help me structure my classes and not lose focus – things can get scattered for me as I teach individual classes and no two students are at the same level or have the same aim! It can get very confusing. - As a beginning teacher having a good course book to help stay on course and make sure the lessons progress logically. - Make good use of the resources available on the Internet and other sources. - Use this tefl course material as a source and refer to it regularly! 2) - Make sure I am prepared for each of my classes and not just riding out the previous one! Try to focus on speaking only english (or french, since that is mainly what I am teaching in Geneva) with my students – unless they become quite desperate! - Have a lesson plan. - Vary the activities; try to include more games (not as obvious when classes are one-on-ones.) - I'm also seriously considering applying for a part-time position in a language school to have that experience first-hand. - Slowly build up a library of teaching material: visuals, games, texts and articles (authentic ones), etc. - Start participating in the various forums that exist for language teachers on the Net. There is a lot of information to be gleaned from them! - Dream project: go teach english (and french if there is a demand for private courses) in Istanbul, Turkey.
