This has been a hard course for me to complete. For someone who thought they had a relatively good grasp of the english language, I have subsequently realized that my knowledge of the workings of the language was terrible! Not having studied any subject since 1987, just finishing this course is of great personal gain and achievement.
There were many times throughout the course when I had to ‘Google’ terminology to refresh my aging memory, for instance ‘what is a preposition?’, ‘what is an adverb?’, ‘past participles’ and more! As for gerunds and modal auxiliary verbs, these were completely new to me – I had no idea what they were despite using them in my every day speech. I could have begun teaching here in egypt without any training but I knew that would be problematic for me and not fair to the students. How could I expect to be an effective teacher if I didn’t know the language myself? So I now feel so much better equipped to be able to help students learn english.
I will be applying for work in language centers here in egypt and I already have private students waiting for me to start teaching them.
