Choosing a topic to write about did not come easy. During these 120 hours I have learned a lot. I finally decided to write what pertains to me the most and what really passions me. Although I have clearly not finished the course I do have some teaching experience. Of all the experience I have, my favorite is teaching beginner students as children. Each and every unit was very informative and will surely help me in future experiences. I am passionate about teaching children because in my opinion, they give back the most satisfaction to teachers. children are afraid of nothing and throw themselves into lessons without thinking twice. children are not embarrassed easily and are always willing to speak which makes participation easy to come by. Motivation is a subject that has been brought up in a few units of this course. Although it has been said that adults tend to be more motivated than children based on the fact that they are studying english as their own choice, I do not necessarily agree. I have found that children are filled with motivation. Whether they are studying english because they want to be or because of other reasons, children, when handled correctly, have an amazing time learning english and can not wait till the next lesson. I have found that when exposed to games, songs, and dancing children learn so much and have fun while learning. My experience is with private schools and therefore the children have lesson after a full day of school. This can make things difficult for a teacher. These kinds of lessons need to be as fun as possible but at the same time informational. All of this being said, a teacher's attitude and manner are also important when teaching children. children have short attention spans and can become tired and unmotivated without any notice and therefore unruly. teachers need to know how to handle the class. Having fun does not mean that the children can do as they please and be unruly. teachers set the tone for the class. children have to know that the teacher is always in control. This comes from the teacher. Tone of voice and clarity is a big help and so are facial expressions. When teaching beginners, especially children, teachers must speak slowly and clearly. Students tend to become frustrated when they do not understand what is being said. Controlling the tone of voice is helpful too. When teachers use a higher tone of voice it tends to mean that an activity is coming up and that there is no need to sit still and listen. Instead when using a lower tone of voice, children understand that they must stay in order and pay attention. Facial expressions add to the tone of voice. teachers should always smile as much as possible and try to be upbeat. When using the previously said higher tone of voice, teachers tend to smile more and move around. This shows students that they can be a bit more laid back. Instead, a smile but with a more serious face and a lower tone of voice shows children that they should sit still and pay attention. These are all keys for the students. When teaching children, it is also important for teachers to take and active part in the lesson. Being silly with the children is a guaranteed way of having fun and ensuring that the children are still learning. All in all I think that children give the back the most. I have to say, I am more tired after a one hour lesson with children and not after a two hour lesson with adults but I would not trade my children for anything. There is nothing better then hearing children speak to you in english and knowing that the reason for it is you! I think that the key with teaching children is to be a child yourself. I think back to my childhood classroom experience and from my personal favorite experiences and bring them to the classroom. Chances are, if I liked them, so will my students. In short, if I spend the rest of my teaching experience teaching children, I have personally hit the jackpot!
