Teaching English for business is the most popular option for English teachers in Germany. Holders of TEFL certificates should experience very few problems in obtaining a teaching job in one of the many positions available throughout this country. Salaries are good but the cost of living is high. Germans also tend to prefer to be taught American English so there is a great demand for native North American teachers.

Due to the size and global nature of the German economy many employers require their workers to advance their English language capabilities thereby enhancing their global market. Demand for teachers therefore outstrips supply. Applicants with experience or backgrounds in business of IT should therefore find it relatively simple to obtain very well paid employment.

We would suggest that the best option is to list the contact details of schools in your chosen location and post your curriculum vitae to each of them. If your interests lie in fields other than business we would suggest that you apply for employment in smaller cities and towns as the need for English language training is high right across the country. Competition in smaller towns is also not as fierce so, if you have a degree and the ability to persevere, you will undoubtedly find suitable employment.

The legalities associated with teaching English in Germany are a lot less stringent than in other EU countries. For instance, teachers from the USA should only need a written job offer from an employer to commence work. Similarly Canadian nationals need only obtain a visa but will have to return to Canada with a letter from their employer confirming employment to begin the work visa application.

"Specialised English and Business Training Firm is looking to hire TEFL-TESOL trained English teachers who have solid experience in teaching business English to corporate personnel of all levels. Our trainers are provided with all teaching materials, individually prepared for our clients by our back office team. Duration of contract is not limited, but we look forward to one year or longer. Requirements include: native English speaker; EU, US-American, Canadian or Australian citizenship/passport holders; good German language skills; at least BA degree(s) in TEFL, Education, Linguistics, German, English or similar; about two years of English teaching experience. Benefits include: regular income of around EUR 1,500 up to EUR 2,500 (ca. USD 3,200) cash per month. High bonus after 12 months (EUR 1,000 bonus + EUR 200 for BahnCard), we will also assist you in initial housing, work permit and tax office matters if necessary."
