I am very excited to have gone through this unit because it addresses three topics that are quite challenging for any teacher such as building raport, givving instructions, and behavioral problems and ways to prevent them. One of the things that is easy for us to forget is to smile and something simple like that changes the whole atmosphere in class. This is something I have been doing for the past two weeks with my students and I can already see a change. I notice that I can be redundant or repetitive sometimes when giving instructions, however, when I catch myself doing that I call on a student and ask him/her to explain the instruction(s). Fianlly, when it comes to students behavior and discipline there have been moments when I have lost my temper and does not contribute to anything. I think changing the dynamic and asking the student to stay behind for a private talk is better than public confrontation or picking on the student.
