Teaching is a really difficult activity. It is essentially impossible to depict how to be a successful or good teacher in an essay. I believe it is really important for all teachers in the world to have a clear understanding of their position towards the students to effective teaching practice. Teachers need to get to the students’ hearts before getting to the students’ brains, this will lead to a harmonious environment that will allow the youngsters to be focused and understand the subjects a lot better. In order to explain this matter, I would like to organise this speech in different points that make a teacher successful; 1. Having high expectations: effective teachers motivate and engage all students in learning rather than just thinking that some of them will not be able to do well. They believe that every single student is able to achieve success at school and to have a wonderful experience. It is important to have high expectations of the students in terms of learning and behaviour so that they will be always competent and focused. 2. Noticing individual differences: personalising the learning for every student. Every child is different in many ways, develops at different rates and also have different abilities and aptitudes. The best teachers are able to use different techniques to involve every student in the classes, they are capable to accommodate students’ needs and backgrounds. 3. Encouraging students: teaching in a way that motivates students to take responsibility of their own learning. The students know the goals of the learning and also understand them before starting, they understand the background and how lucky they are to have a chance to study. 4. Mastering teaching content: having deep knowledge of the content and the things that are being taught. The best teachers analyze their own knowledge and are able to use it in the most effective way depending on the lesson environment, motivating students to keep learning. 5. Providing feedback and monitoring progress: effective teachers monitor the student’s achievements and drawbacks. This allows them to provide regular feedback that will allow the students to have valuable data about what they should improve. It is essential to understand the standards that the students are capable to achieve and use different assessment methods to see what is working better for the children’s improvement. 6. Having positive relationships: successful teachers build productive relationships, confidence and a productive class environment. This is achieved by treating students with respect, expecting the same in return. It is very important to work as a team to get the best results together. In conclusion, good teaching is as much about passion as it is about reason. It’s about motivating students not only to learn, but teaching them how to learn, and doing so in a manner that is relevant, meaningful and memorable. It’s about caring for your craft, having a passion for it and conveying that passion to everyone, but mostly importantly to your students. • A desire to share your love of the subject with students. • An ability to make the material being taught stimulating and interesting. • A facility for engaging with students at their level of understanding. • A capacity to explain the material plainly. • A commitment to making it absolutely clear what has to be understood at what level and why. • Showing concern and respect for students. Good teaching is about having fun, experiencing pleasure and intrinsic rewards … like locking eyes with a student in the back row and seeing the synapses and neurons connecting, thoughts being formed, the person becoming better, and a smile cracking across a face as learning all of a sudden happens.
