Tenses can be very difficult to teach, especially to students who's L1 doesn't have the same tenses as English. From my experience, the best approach is to teach the tenses at separate times, instead of all at once. The number of English tenses and the similar sounding names can be very confusing to learners. Addressing one or two tenses at a time, with as many examples and chances to practice as possible, is a good way to keep students from becoming confused and bored.
