There are various theories that describe the developmental process of young learners, however the theory of cognitive development varies from those listed in the unit. It states that the are 4 stages in this theory of development and they happen in a set order. These stages are determined by the child's/young learners age. It is important to insure that the learning environment is suitable for learning to facilitate the learning process and ensure language retention. The teacher can make use of various seating arrangements to help create the desired atmosphere to best suit the activities to be done/lesson content. Younger learners are different to older young learners (ages 5-9 versus ages 9-13) in what they like and dislike. We can apply the previously mentioned theories to identify what learners like and dislike to assist in grasping their attention to achieve a good level of participation among the learners.
