This unit covers ways to develop a course for young learners. Both level testing and needs analysis are explained and discussions of the reasons for these tests are covered. I found this part of the unit helpful because I understand the importance and need for these tests now. I also have an understanding of the different levels that young learners are divided into. In the unit limiting factors around what ideally a teacher would like to do and what a teacher has to do are discussed. Examples around employer, time constraints, resources, cultural issues and students are outlined. This section was helpful to think about what constraints I may have as a teacher in the future. Information regarding syllabus design is also covered and what to expect regarding the syllabus when teaching for a state or private school and what I can do if I need to develop a syllabus if one is not available. I will keep this in mind and will refer to this section in the future for guidance. The topics of assessments and examinations are also covered and the different types of tests available, how often to give and what the tests are designed to do are detailed. The last part of the unit is about course evaluation and why it is advisable to do this at the completion of a course. I was interested to learn about this because rather than it being seen as a focus on things that didn't go well during the course, in a negative sense, this type of evaluation is necessary for improvements and to help develop the course and the teacher for future student groups and can be looked at in a positive way.
