In this unit we discussed the various materials available for use in the classroom and how to best utilize them. There are two different forms or categories of classroom materials. The first category of classroom material is called Authentic. Authentic materials consist of things made for a specific purpose other than classroom use as a teaching aid or prop. The second category of classroom materials is called Non-Authentic. Non-Authentic materials consists of things that were made specifically for teaching and are usually designed/manufactured by teachers themselves or by education companies. We discussed the need for lesson plans as well as their design and use. We talked about corse books, their advantages and disadvantages. The internet is also a source of teaching materials. Lastly we discussed classroom management. Discipline is important to maximize classroom time. You can minimize discipline problems if you show your students you respect them, maintain your temper and do not play favorites.
