Unit 5 was a fun lesson to go through. The only suggestion I would have would be to slightly change the verbiage for Task 3 and Test questions 2-6. Task 3 had the teacher first think of the game, then the teaching point. Test questions 2-6 also listed the game first, then had teachers select the teaching point. It would reinforce the correct thought process if Task 3 and Test questions 2-6 directed teachers to see the teaching points first, then look at the games that meet those teaching requirements. Other than that, I appreciated the variety that was introduced in this lesson and had fun trying to incorporate the different elements into my lesson planning. This included songs, chants, music, games, stories, arts & crafts, seasonal activities, and dramatization. Music helps young learners develop listening, reading and creative writing skills. It exposes them to culture and the phonological aspects of English. Music can be used for memorization drilling, gap fill activities and learning grammar points (such as tenses). Games, stories, and seasonal themes provide a good basis for a variety of language learning activities. Stories can be used to build vocabulary, model different writing styles, develop all four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening), drilling, gap-fill activities, and show tense structures. Arts & crafts utilize all four skills and employs a multiple intelligence approach to learning. Music and dramatization (using mime and movement) employ the Total Physical Response methodology to help students learn.
