The goal of teaching is to transmit knowledge to students so that they can learn by experience and application. To do this you must be in tune with your students by building rapport with them, which means building nice relationships and connections with your students so they can learn in a harmonius environment. Building rapport with students gives them the confidence to ask questions and interact with teachers in a way that inspires them to learn more and makes the learning process enjoyable. Building rapport might not come overnight, it is a skill that has to be practiced as you go. Each student is different as well so you have to be flexible in your approach to your students. But understand that building rapport with your students is a crucial part of the learning experience, so it is a skill which you must learn. I will explain three ways to help you to establish rapport with your students. Get to know your students. In order to establish rapport you have to get to know your students by making an effort to get to know them and interacting with them. Learn their names, find out what interests them outside the classroom and be more personal with them in general. You can find out what their hobbies are, what books and movies they like etc... Eventually your students will open up to you more and feel comfortable sharing their feelings and life with you which will give them the confidence needing to ask you questions when they need help in their studies. Be respectful and kind to your students. Make sure you always have positive interactions with all your students. Learn each of their names and greet them and say goodbye before and after lessons. If you see them outside the classroom make sure to always greet them with a warm and friendly smile. These small acts of appreciation and respect will go a long way to building rapport with your students. Treat them with respect and they will respect and appreciate you more as a teacher, which is necessary if you in regards to establishing rapport with your classroom and creating the right proper environment academic success. Don't forget to be yourself and have fun with your students. Just be who you are with students, be yourself, don't try to put on a show. Students tend to open up with others who are authentic, natural and enjoy what they do. If you open up to them, while remaining professional, they will open up to you as well. Enjoy working with your students and don't be afraid to laugh or interact with them in playful way while you help them learn the course material. This will help your students feel comfortable with you and make learning easier for them. Creating a nice rapport with your students is an essential part of their learning and growth process. Teaching is more than just repeating what you know like a robot. It means getting to know your students, listening to them, understanding them, being in tune with their emotions and needs so that you can bring out the best in them. As time goes by building rapport will be come as second nature to you, and your students will enjoy the learning process much more.
