Every teacher has their own style, but it is important to be flexible and inspire confidence in students. Students should be called on at the end of the question, not the beginning, so the entire class is alert. When giving directions, avoid asking "do you understand?". Instead, ask questions relating to the unit. Be aware of students as both individual learners and group learners (such as their ability to work well in pairs or their familiarity with each other within the classroom). The teacher should be clear, positive, and show interest in students and their work. While reading about the use of eye contact, I was curious about how this method is utilized in classrooms where the local culture does not view eye contact as socially acceptable.
