This unit contained a lot of helpful information about how to maintain classroom discipline in a positive manner. To me, the main theme is consistency, both in expectations for students and in how disciplinary measures are carried out. It is easier to maintain order in the classroom if control is maintained from the start, so the first impression the teacher makes is most important. Positivity and kindness are also important in maintaining a positive environment where students are encouraged to learn. Other ways to encourage learning include thinking carefully about groupings for activities and classroom layout. Students’ physical space, as well as who is around them, will have a big impact on their ability to learn. As a teacher, it is important to curate these spaces to maximize that learning ability.
