One of the goals that a teacher must aim inside a classroom is to have a good relationship with the students. Establishing connection with the students can make learning more effective to them. This ensures that students get to have fun and enjoyable environment while learning new things. It is more likely that students participate more and express themselves better if they get on well with the teacher. I used to work in the BPO industry. One of the skills I developed was building rapport with the clients. In the beginning of my teaching career, I learned that it was no different when it comes to having students. I found it easier for my students to grasp the lesson when they were at ease. Also, students cooperated better and became more active if the learning atmosphere was more relaxed. I've had several occasions where students were initially timid and shy. But after a couple of minutes or lessons, they started to participate more. Once they were able to put their trust and confidence on me, the lesson would just roll on smoothly for us. From then on, I started to employ techniques that can help me get the trust of my students better. I wanted to make sure that my students won’t shy away and that they would contribute more during our classes. I knew that this would help them especially in the practice parts. One thing I learned over the years is that the teacher is the manager or the controller of the class. Teachers dictate the pace of the lesson. And as for establishing rapport, there is no better stimulator than the teacher himself. I think this gives the teachers better chances of achieving a successful class. Students also play a huge part in maintaining a good classroom atmosphere so teachers have to be keen and must have the skills to keep the spirit up. There are plenty of ways that can be done in establishing rapport with the students. A simple smile and positive attitude can make a huge difference. Injecting an element of humour or conducting ice breaking activities greatly help. Tailoring the activities to the student's interests can also get them place their trust on you. The way we use our voice is also important in developing rapport as it has effect on how we come across. We can make our lessons more interesting and varied so the students can get the most fun out of our classes. Offering compliments and being polite can maximize the impact of encouragement to the students. Lastly, having the right manner and showing them that you enjoy what you're doing can add to the success of building a stronger relationship. Whether the students are confident or shy, a teacher shouldn't stop in establishing a good connection with them. It adds to the overall value of what the students can get from the teachers. The bond that will be developed is something that can be of help in the long run. So regardless of how students act inside the class, teachers should always strive to bring positivity and smile to all of their students.
