When teaching English vocabulary and grammar, two important questions to keep in mind are 'What?' and 'How?' Aside from pre-set curricular structures, student's needs and abilities must be the leading factor. When dealing with beginners, especially very young ones, it is prudent to start with vocabulary that can be represented visually and which they come in contact with often. Grammar for young beginners should be simple, and something that can be used and practices frequently in the classroom. An example might be "It is....", which can be used then presenting and chorally drilling new vocabulary. For intermediate and older learners, their past progress needs to be taken into consideration, increasing difficulty in grammatical concepts and language function, as well as inevitably lowering the frequency of vocabulary as more words are learned.
