One of the main problems of English teaching has to do with the degree of competence in the native language of the students who then transfer this competence to their English learning.I prefer to favor a communicative competence approach which doesn not depend so much on native structures knowledge and thus is easier to adapt to "what we have now" in terms of students competences. From my point of view, the main issue is not to include grammar in foreign language courses or not; but what grammar to include, what kind of students we have, when and how. To learn English as a foreign language students must know the basic structures of this. If they use it well, they do not have to describe those structures. Use and usage will be made easier to learn through speaking, reading and writing skills than from studying rules and explanations.
