This unit went over the important parts of teaching a new language- both with new vocabulary and with grammar structures. Students need exposure to the new language, they need to have an understanding of both the meaning and construction of what they are saying, and they need to be able to practice and produce it. Teaching new vocabulary has many factors. Some of the most important ones are the similarity to the original language, the pronunciation and appropriacy, the vocab's teachability, and how often they are able to practice it. There are lots of ways to teach new vocabulary, but the important thing is to make sure that the way they are learning it is with a good mix of study, engage, and activate. With grammatical structures, the most important factors to me would be the meaning, usage, patterns, and making sure that it's understood verbally and on paper. Again, there are tons of ways to teach grammar, but the most important thing is to cover study, engage, and activate.
