Trying to think of appropriate activities for the Activate aspect of a lesson is difficult because I think the activity will greatly depend on the purpose of the class, the reason the students are taking the class, what their motivation for studying is, the current level of English comprehension and the overall dynamics of the individual class and personalities of the students. I don't want students to be bored. I have been in classes myself where I have been bored by an activity that I felt was demeaning or below my level of comprehension and functioning and been offended by the lack of challenge. I do not want to make the same mistake with my students. However, what challenges one student may be boring to another. Perhaps one solution would be to have a variety of activities from which the students could choose to partake in during the Activate phase would be beneficial.
