One of the most important principles of teaching is being able to self recognize what areas the teacher needs to improve to ensure the students are learning the language effectively. Language teachers need to adapt to different types of students and classes and recognize the student's needs and abilities. Some lessons may have different levels of language knowledge and the teacher needs to ensure that the students do not feel that the material provided in the lesson isn't too easy or too difficult. Providing correct study materials is important as the students can progress at an effective rate. Considerations for different learners should also be made. If the students are young learners, it is important that the lesson is very fun and interactive. The teacher will sometimes have to make fun of themselves and not be too formal. When it comes to students learning the language for business, the teacher must understand that the students most likely have a full-time job and are doing this in their spare time, a reasonable amount of knowledge can only be retained for every lesson. It should also be noted that business language students will be much more motivated as they have chosen to practice the language in most cases. Children and young learners don't normally decide themselves learn the language and may be more difficult to motivate. Lessons need to be adapted to ensure the students are not bored with activities or tasks. Various games and activities can be used effectively to give students a variety of challenges so the lessons never feel repetitive. An effective way to start a lesson is engaging with the students before the study phase to ensure they have a chance to warm up and get their minds activated. This can be achieved by a general conversation about the topic in the daily lesson plan and avoiding error correction. It is important to build a strong rapport with the students as they will feel more interactive when the teacher asks for feedback on activities or lessons. There are numerous ways to build rapport with students such as knowing the student's name, talking in a pleasant manner and simply having a smile on your face. Also, activities such as pass the ball and avoiding constant error correction can build effective rapport. Communicating with other teachers is also an effective way to get ideas and feedback on how to improve the methods and strategies to help students perform better. Teachers can also research different methods from online sources to try out different strategies to perform in their lessons. Lessons do not want to become predictable as students will always be aware of the routine and lose interest. Hand gestures have to be used in a correct manner so that the students do not feel intimated or unsure by what the teacher is trying to say. A variety of tests can be performed to see the progression of the students and get a knowledge of what students have retained and forgotten throughout the course. A teacher should also be knowledgable when using teaching aids and equipment such as overhead projectors, interactive whiteboards, and cassette players. When the teacher is self-analyzing themselves, they have to be able to witness their performance through the phycology and behavior of the students.
