Past tense forms are difficult to understand from certain cultural backgrounds, for example many Asian languages have only one tense, which may be difficult to introduce the concept of over twelve tenses, breaking them down into 3 main types with a sub-types, maybe easy to understand for the student, as well as introduce for the teacher. The examples provided by the unit, are very useful and help provide the teacher with the tools to implement lessons around past tense structure effectively for all levels of student. Again, I believe this is useful to a native speaker as well, who instinctively use it without full understanding of the how and why it works, this makes it harder to teach to students, as this level natural level of understanding cant be communicated effectively.
