This unit provided a lot of practical advice and suggestions for teachers in the classroom. I learned how to effectively hold students' attention through various simple means. For example, I should use appropriate eye contact, include everyone in the class equally, use gestures and visual aids, and stick to using English that is at or below the student' level when giving instructions or explaining something. I also learned about the advantages and disadvantages of different kinds of classroom seating arrangements and groupings. The section I took most note of was the last one, about discipline. I'm a very easy-going and bubbly person, so maintaining discipline is not my strong suit. But I learned that I can do so while still being myself! I can respect students as much as I expect them to respect me, and I can be consistent with them. Losing one's temper and making threats you cannot carry out are not effective at all, for obvious reasons. Overall, I enjoyed this lesson very much and found it very helpful.
