While I have not officially held a teaching position, I have at one time volunteered as a teacher's assistant when my son was in elementary school. It was there that I quickly observed how varied the students' responses to the teacher's directions could be. Some students immediately responded, while some completely ignored what the teacher would say. As a result, I also quickly saw that as the teacher's assistant, I would need to adjust my delivery and interaction with some of children, as well as engage with them at different levels. This unit gave me a much deeper insight into learning and language levels, and how I should account for that when helping students learn. Learning about roles, as described in this unit, also helped me understand how to approach helping students learn, according to what I think would best help the student(s) in that moment. One of the biggest insights for me in this unit, however, was the motivators because I hadn't factored that into how different students might receive the material and perform.
