This course was helpful because it lined out the different roles that both teachers and students have as explained specifically the different language levels and how they are defined. I specifically appreciated the differentiation between adults and children and how their learning may differ, having to do with motivation, different types of activities and in what way the new language is processed in relation to a learners previous experience. It was also helpful to think through the different roles, like facilitator, manager, model, participant, organizer etc. and think more deeply about when these roles ought to be used. It was also enlightening to read also about how oftentimes teachers aren't successful because they haven't learned how to merge appropriately between the different roles. This makes sense to me and will be helpful to keep in mind for my future of teaching ESL and otherwise.
