Teach English in Litai Zhen - Liaocheng Shi

All languages are taught on the basic of four skills that need to be developed, then be able to speak the language someone wishes to learn. These are the following competencies: listening, reading, writing and speaking. The two competencies listening and reading are considered receptive skills, while the other two namely writing and speaking are productive skills. It should also be noted that the stage of writing is preceded logically by that of reading. Likewise , the stage of speaking is preceded by the stage of listening. In order to manage and learn English, learners that are willing to learn need to develop these four skills . to this end, a succeful teacher must include courses that will allow students to establish a solid foundation in each of these four skills. In this summative task, and as a teacher , i'd like to focus and show the importance of the receptive skills which are listening and reading . so why teaching receptive skills is very important? The receptive skills are listening and reading . in this stage, learners don't need to produce language to do these , they collect , receive and understand . these skills can be constrasted with productive skills. Usually, in the process of learning English , the students begin with receptive understanding of the new words and content, and then later they can move on to productive use . Listening is one of the essential skills an English learner needs to improve as it allows his/her to consolidate the understanding of English language. The teacher have to choose the audio medium that keeps the attention of the learners and to make sure that they're not going to get tired after few minutes of listening. It's recommend to prepare the students before they start listening to the audio support in English . this will help them better understand the content of the audio. Reading is also one of the best indispensable means , that allow both to consolidate the understanding of the learner studies and to enrich it's vocabulary . also for a better understanding , the teacher must simplify and carfuly choose the material that the students are going to read . including activities that can help the students improve all parts of the English language vocabulary , grammar, spelling and writing is very important too. Also the use of scanning technique to read fast is a highly effective way. I think making reading one of the students habit by reading articles, books, magazines , newspapers will take them out of their comfort zone and it will grow the potential of doing this more and more. So giving students the key for developing and improving strong listening and reading skills means focusing on reading or listening for a specific information . as an English teacher , i'd like to mention some suggestions that helped me incorporate the reading and listening skills into my lessons. Jigsaw activities, it means form the class into groups and each group listens to just part of a passage. The Jigsaw activities lightens the load for students as readers or listeners and it aloud them to practice more. By previewing the tasks with the students , they can know what they're looking for without getting lost or nervous which will lead them get confused , so a teacher always have students read or listen for a purpose, and have them fill in simple graphic as they listen or read . this will help them take notes as well as collect as much information as they can. In the end, receptive skills play a very improtant role in student's learning career and success of learning English language skills. The gole of these skills is to improve student's listening and reading by engaging several techniques and ways. So that the student will be able to understand spoken English as well as reading and responding appropriately.
