FORIEGN LANGUAGE EXPERIENCE Having had the chance to live in different country is a fulfilling journey this are the life experiences that we never forget; everyone had experiences with foreign languages. Whether travelling or meeting foreign traveler in your city, or watching a foreign films, we have all found ourselves exposed to foreign languages. Learning a foreign language was one of the most difficult yet rewarding experiences in anyone’s life and this is the experiences that you wouldn’t trade for anything else it is fulfilling yet tiring experience. Speaking and Learning a foreign language improves the functionality of your brain by challenging it to recognize, negotiate meaning, and communicate in different language systems. This skill boosts your ability to negotiate meaning in other problem-solving tasks as well. It was common to be taught and using a foreign language- a language which is totally different from our native language. Its form and its structure we have to learn the basics from the translation of words, pronunciation of the words and to memorization of the different sentences commonly used in daily basis. During the process of learning the language, I have learned that the best way to learn the language is to engage in conversation with the locals. As the famous saying goes “ Experience is the best teacher” although in class we heard a lot of the target language it did not really help a lot because the main focus of the lesson was being able to read and write to use the words is what is really important in effectively learning the language. Learning a foreign language is like considering the 4 E’s – education, experience, exposure, environment and Education for studying the basics of the language. Having knowledge of the language skills, Experience for using the language first-hand, being able to speak the language, exposure for the interaction with the people speaking of the language. By talking to the locals and being exposed to the context of the language, Environment for the setting where you can constantly use the language. It is also important to know that in familiarizing with language you need the audacity to take the risks and the challenge of the language itself. As a future educator, what I learned from my experience in learning the language is to never solely rely on the books. The learner should constantly be engaged in a conversation with the use of the new language. It is the teacher’s responsibility to initiate and innovate methods that would help the learner to efficiently grasp the language. But it takes two tango. There should be the initiative and motivation from the learners. If all of the stakeholders are cooperating only then can learning be meaningful and significant. Learning and teaching foreign language is a journey, the insights and experience that you will gain into the culture, the people, the place and the language will remain with you as an invaluable, unforgettable part of the adventure. Thus according to a famous quote “Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things.” And we owe it to our curiosity in understanding and decoding the unfamiliar language.
