There are many reason to learn a second language it helps hone your ability to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people and increases the mastery of your mother tongue. Studies have also show that students that are bilingual have an increased scores on the verbal and math parts of the ACT’s and SAT’s. The students also have long term cognitive benefits including better listening, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Learning a second language helps to learn about different cultures which helps in developing empathy for others. The reason English should be should be your second language are many. It is the official language of 53 countries. English is also the language of science, aviation, diplomacy, tourism and computers. It the most spoken language on the internet at 25.4% of all user. Second being Chinese at 19.3%, followed by Spanish at 8.1 %. English increases your chances of getting a better job especially in a multinational company. English is also the first language for over 400 million people around the world. That is a lot of people to meet. Knowing English will also help if you want to move to an English speaking country. Or traveling to an English speaking country. The earlier you start a language the better. Listening, speaking, reading and writing. You are also starting with a clean slate. You aren’t trying to reteach them the right way of doing it.
