Explaining course content so that students understand the materials being taught are the main components in lesson planning. The term for “course materials” is used to describe the resources used to deliver instructions. Course materials come in many shapes and sizes but they all support the student in achieving his/her learning goals. In Terms of support, course materials allow for the student to practice new skills gained during the course. The student can further learn more at home with course materials allowing them to do drills that they may have had trouble with during a class lesson preventing him/her from falling behind the other students. There are also course materials for impaired students such as Braille text for blind students, large text for low vision students and cd’s/DVD's for students with dyslexia or other learning disabilities. The teacher starts using course material as soon as he/she enters the classroom. For teaching in another country, the teacher could use something like artifacts from the students’ native country, that in turn could get the students attentive and motivated to start speaking in the new language. This, in turn, could help motivate the students outside the classroom to use the new language. Course materials also help to make learning fun regardless of age. Using course materials that can only be found in a classroom provide an enjoyable experience that gets the entire class involved in the activity which is when the most learning takes place as most students enjoy group activities. Implementing course materials as a foreign language teacher using digital devices, video blogs, educational platforms, and textbooks are essential for teaching English as a foreign language even though the coursebook is usually the main factor in deciding what course material to use. (Kelly, Kelly, Offner, & Vorland, 2002; Kilickaya, 2004; Tamo, 2009) State that using authentic material for EFL seems to have the most positive effect on the students as it helps translate their native language to the English language. The downside was that content had too much complex language that did not relate to English structure. The teacher must choose authentic material carefully and adapt the content for an appropriate lesson as to not make the students reluctant to learn or get confused. Course materials are important because they provide the most important aspect of teaching which is making sure the lesson being taught is “clear and understandable” and “prepared and organized”. The way the teacher uses the whiteboard, maybe underling important content using different colored markers, or you could combine a course material with another, for example, putting google earth on a digital projector. Getting the students’ attention and motivating them to participate in classroom activities to stimulate their learning can be achieved easier with the use of course materials versus just talking which could lead to the student getting bored. However the teacher chooses to utilize his/her materials to optimize the lesson being taught in the classroom, materials will help stimulate the student to learn more effectively to achieve their goal to success no matter the subject being taught in the classroom.
