A successful English lecture depends on many different factors. They may be successful or may fail because teachers make mistakes about knowledge, teaching methods, teaching tools, ... In my opinion, course materials are one of the important factors and the use of appropriate materials for teachers is worth considering. The current source of documents is very rich and diverse. In the past, we only have some key documents such as textbooks, tapes, etc, now the development of science and technology has brought more diverse sources. Instead of lectures that are only illustrated in the textbook, the lesson content can be shown through videos. Other reference sources are also very much such as authentic – programs, magazines, newspapers, songs, poems, brochures, menus, films, etc. They are presented in many beautiful forms and presentations. Content can be topical and trend. Each type of document has its advantages and disadvantages. Textbooks are very popular and knowledge often follows a built-in program. Knowledge in the textbook has been studied and proven. It is suitable for teaching for all students. However, the content in the textbook is often less lively and attractive. Other authentic materials such as pictures, newspapers, etc, they illustrate very lively and attract students. The content in these types of documents is often very practical, so it is attractive and helps students to learn more. Student gain confidence when they understand them. However, it is not suitable for all students. Some material could be used for different task at different levels. For example, when a teacher uses journalism as a teaching material, the poorer group of students will slow down the content more than good students. Sometimes knowledge is only the subjective opinion of the writer. So how to use the material appropriately is a challenge for teachers. Teachers should incorporate the use of different types of materials in teaching. However, the use should be carefully selected. The accuracy of the content in the document is an extremely important factor. Teachers can both use textbooks to teach the basic knowledge, and use materials such as videos and books to illustrate the knowledge in textbooks to attract attention and help students. acquire knowledge more easily. If the teacher only uses the material as a textbook, it will be boring for students. Students can only memorize mechanically without understanding the true nature of the problem. The combination of textbooks and practical knowledge materials will help students have a link between theory and practice. Created material is also a good suggestion. These are usually designed by the teacher to replace or supplement materials from a course book. The teacher can use their abilities for material production, whilst those who are less artistically gifted have to rely on pictures cut out from magazines or newspapers or stick people drawings. They can, unlike authentic materials, be graded to the level of the student. Common created material include flashcards, picture stories, etc. In conclusion, teachers need to use materials wisely and scientifically to ensure the accuracy of knowledge and attract students. Using appropriate teaching materials can greatly increase the effectiveness of the lecture.
