English is the most spoken language in the world. As a non-native English speaker, it was important to me to be fluent in this language since I love traveling so much. Also I knew speaking English would always be a considerable advantage for me in my work life. After practicing a lot when I was studying in Singapore and traveling a lot in many countries, I was feeling very good about my knowledge of the language. I started thinking about helping other people to learn since it is so important to me. So few countries speak English as a first language even though it is the language most people use to communicate when they speak to someone from another country no matter where you are in the world. It is the most used language to open up to other people from other countries. After completing the TEFL course, I realized that not only it is important to know the language, the grammar and the vocabulary, but it is also important to know how to teach it. The course is good to explain how to organize a class, how to plan a lesson and how to animate activities. It also explains how to help the students to learn, by adapting the way that we teach and what we teach, to what they need and to what they like. Also, the course gives confidence to the future teachers. It can be difficult to get in front of a class with people speaking a language you might not know. The course gives you the skills that you need to break the glass and to know what you have to do when you get in front of a class for the first time. The teaching skills that we have learned in the course can be applied to so many other aspects of life. Even if someone doesn’t want to be a teacher, the course is relevant and really interesting. It gives some good general knowledge about the language but also about how to get other people's attention and interest in a conversation. Another reason to take a TEFL course is for those who want to experience teaching, without taking a degree. It is a good way to reach for new opportunities and experiences. I was studying finance for a couple of years when I realized that I didn’t like it so much and I started to think about another path for my life. Sometimes having a TEFL course is enough to be able to find a job as a teacher in a foreign country. It is a good way to fund our travels, while experiencing a possible career. Also, we get to experience the local culture since we spend most of our days with the local people and this is the best way to travel to me.
