Since my early school years, my great curiosity led me straight to the dream I set to achieve no matter what. Having pursued my Bachelor’s Degree in English Language and Literature, I am now blessed to be leading several classes of English at Fergana Academic Lyceum; certainly this way of putting what I learnt into an important facet of my life is truly rewarding. Over the course of many years, I have tried to excel at many things and reach for new beginnings in all matters of my life, so teaching expertise is no exception here. Participating in a number of programs aimed at improving the overall sense of experience in ESL teachers has, so far, proven efficient as I have now become a better version of me than a fresh graduate. Being born in a family where both parents are teachers is very hard at times. This is mainly because when the conversation hits the topic of what we lack in our education system we always used to end up with one answer which what my parents thought was “WE DO HAVE A PERFECT SYLLABUS!!!” So, one day I came up with a question “Why are not schools responsible for teaching interpersonal skills which are indeed useful in students' life?" I actually thought about it for two days and decided to share my ideas with my parents even though I had known that they would not praise me for what I was going to say. I talked a lot about life skills such as negotiation, communication, problem-solving skills, critical-thinking which schools should actually have in their syllabus. I gave them clear examples of mine to clarify my opinion. Amazingly, my father gave me a world of hope when he said "It means there is still a chance to do something to make a change" That was enough to drive me insane to do something unimaginably big, because hearing these words was unexpectedly urging. A short while later, I decided to make a presentation about “What schools should teach?” in the Academic lyceum I am working in. So, I needed real kind of persuasive ideas to awake a giant within students to find something they really need other than some boring school subjects. What surprised me the most was the students’ passion in giving their opinions and explaining it in a way clearer way than even me. Though there were some who did not simply pay attention when I asked questions. Considering all they suggested I listed five important people-skills which schools do not teach. That was the very first presentation I was doing concerning something different from my field. Seeing me worried before the presentation, the principal of the lyceum asked me whether I was sure about the ideas I was going to present to the students and my reply was a big yes though I was not that much confident. I started my speech by asking some funny questions to make students involved and interested in the talk as there were almost 200 of them. Then I asked students what they do not want to study in their schools. I started giving my own points about the five interpersonal skills they may probably have in the list of school subjects in the near future. I explained the reasons why communication skills could help them better express their opinion and find a common language with a person they are talking to and how they could solve their problems in a bit more different way if they learnt about problem-solving skills. Actually, many people say these skills are meant to be taught in family during a person's life step by step, but implementing them into school curriculum could make considerable changes. After the presentation seeing spark and contentment in students' eyes was pleasant and when I asked feedbacks and comments for the presentations students’ remarks were quite positive and they said that they totally agreed with what I said. Nowadays, we have two of the skills as fixed subjects in our Academic lyceum and we have also organized a number of discussion clubs to widen horizon of students. Generally, I feel that suggesting the idea was one of the reasons with which I could give a better insight into the real role of schools.
