With Unit 1 I had the opportunity to learn more about the qualities and responsibilities of both teachers and students. What makes a good student and what makes a good teacher seems to be obvious at the beginning but if we look more closely into that subject there are a few aspects one might overlook. For instance, travel, business opportunities or a wider range of research possibilities can have a major influence in the student’s motivation and so in the overall performance in class. Personally I learnt and started thinking more about my responsibilities which surpass knowing language and grammar structures. It is essential to connect to every student in a unique way, while keeping in mind their individuality. As a teacher I have to develop and apply emotional intelligence in every single class. The role of the teacher as a participant rather than a leader in group activities was another aspect that I really enjoyed reading about. In that way I encourage students to think more independently which, at the same time, leads to more self confidence as they realize that they can perform well even without the teacher's help. In the last part of Unit 1 I learnt about language levels and the Common European Framework. All in all, I have gained I fair amount of basic teach knowledge which will certainly help me improving my teaching skills.
