There are multiple aspects to take into account in order to provide a good learning experience for students. A good teacher should be understanding of the context that they are teaching in, and how that affects students' learning abilities. For example, teaching a group of adults in Brazil requires different considerations than teaching schoolchildren in China. Good teachers create good learners: by adapting curriculum and classroom materials to match the learners’ base level of knowledge, cultural expectations, and maturity levels, as well as the personalities of the learners, a teacher will see better results and a more successful classroom environment. Understanding learners’ motivations and adapting to fit them is something I had not considered, and I feel is very important to a teacher’s success. Building and encouraging motivation in younger learners is something I’m looking forward to learning more about in future units.
