There are several characteristics of a good teacher including: being kind a patients, loving teaching, being lively and entertaining, having an ability to motivate students, good rapport with class, being involved with all students throughout the lesson, correcting students without offending them or affecting their motivation and knowing students' weaknesses to give them individual attention when necessary. In addition their are several roles that a teacher can play. These include being a manager, organizer, assessor, promoter, participant, tutor, resource, model and/or an observer. The teacher should have the ability to offer all roles depending and choose a role depending on the activity and goals that they desire for their students to achieve. Characteristics of a good learner/student include: listening to the language, having a desire to experiment with language, asking questions, thinking about their individual learning process, accepting error correction, and having a desire to learn. Characteristics that the teacher should be aware of include: age, learning experience, motivation, nervousness, language awareness, behavioral problems, life experience, culture and first language, and language level of the student. In essence, in order for teachers to have most success in motivating students and helping them enjoy learning, they must be enthusiastic, sensitive, motivated, and caring.
