In life, we have different roles to play. Being a teacher is no different. An effective teacher has a full understanding of his or her roles and responsibilities. He or she knows when to step in or where to back off. As an online teacher, it's very tempting to spoon-feed students, especially the beginners. I must be critical in doing so. It is vital to weigh what role I will employ in each situation. In this unit, I also learned about the qualities of a good learner. In the ESL industry, it's important that teachers are sensitive about the demographics of the students, especially the race and culture. Being aware of these factors, it is easier to choose the appropriate approach to use in each setting. A good grasp of the relationship between learners and teachers and the roles we play will enable me to deliver effective lessons.
