Most of my knowledge on parts of speech comes from learning French. I am fluent in French and because of all my intense practice I am very familiar with identifying parts of speech. However, I never intensely studied English like I did French. For example, as opposed to learning the verb tenses in English in a classroom, I mostly grew to understand them through breathing the language. So, for the most part I knew all of this information from growing up with English, but it was helpful to cement my understanding and also I had a few surprises along the way. Such as the word "there" is an adverb.
