Unit two focuses on parts of speech, delving into these categories: nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, and prepositions/conjunctions. Nouns can be plural (America), countable (book), and uncountable (music). Adjectives are used for comparisons as comparatives (shorter than...) and superlatives (shortest). Indefinite articles (a, an) and definite articles (the) help sentence flow. Verbs are actions; transitive verbs are followed by objects, intransitive verbs are not, and infinitives are prefaced with "to." Verbs can exist in a base form, past simple, past participle, and present participle. Adverbs add meaning to action ad usually end in "ly" while gerunds are verbs used as nouns and end in "ing." Pronouns are personal, possessive, reflexive, and relative. Prepositions relate nouns or pronouns to other words in a sentence, and conjunctions join words in a sentence.
