Unit 2 Parts of speech How to properly create sentences with -Nouns Nouns are usefull in our sentences for naming things, nouns can be common/proper/compound/abstract/collective. When nouns are used it is worth note to the student that some nouns can not be used as a plural as they are of unquantifiable amounts i.e music can not be refered to as musics. these types of nouns are refered to as uncountable nouns -Adjectives Adjectives are words we use to further describe a noun, giving it definition and volume. The order use of adjectives is not set to exacting rule but instead has option of varience, and is more subject to what might sound better to the ear as far as ease of being understood. Sometimes whilst writing your students may find that changing the order in which they use the adjectives and the noun in a sentence may make an emphasis more noteable. -Articles help you refer to subjects in single, group, uncountable and zero articles. with the/an/a. "The" is used when specific is needed such as; the cup on the shelf, where as an/a are indefinite and used when in reference to generalizations such as; that was "a" small room for such "a" lot of things. "An' will typically be used in reference to nouns that have a Y consant sound in them such as; "an" eye for "an" eye, or "an" unique art piece. -Verbs action words such as; fly/flap/glide/jump/stand/walk -Adverbs a word that describes or gives more information about a verb, adjective. the children meticulously[adverb] swept[verb] the floor. -Gerunds used when you wish to use the verb as a noun, by adding "ing" you can change the action in to the name of the action. -Pronouns are used instead of or in place of more precise nouns when in reference to personal or possesive nouns -Prepostions and Conjunctions Prepostions show the relationship between a noun and pronoun, there are three types of prepostions time/movement/place when used in a sentence prepostions allow us to outline a subject and give it context. Conjunctions join words or groups in a sentence, allowing the speaker to join actions to actions, actions to ideas. conjunctions can be words such as: and/but/nor/yet or simple phrasing such as: not only/but also/as soon as
