In this unit I have learnt about the different parts of speech. I knew a lot about this subject but there were some new terms that I was unfamiliar with, for example, I had not heard of gerunds before or the terms accountable and non-accountable nouns. I learnt some of the rules that could be applied to some of the different parts of speech. I now have a greater understanding of the complexities of the English language and the difficulties I will encounter when teaching students. It also reaffirms my understanding of how difficult it will be for students to grasp some of these concepts, especially where they are very different from their own language. I found this unit very useful as it give a clear description of the different classes of speech and provided some helpful rules that could be used to assist students in the future.
