This unit deals with the rules of English grammar, how sentences are formed and illustrates the many exceptions to the rules that exist within the language. Different components of the English language are presented and explained with examples provided. Things like nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions and articles. Personally this reinforced that although I am able to speak and write English at a fairly high level, I don’t actually think much about the structure of what I am saying or writing, and how the rules apply. It feels easier to “know how” to just speak properly versus actually understanding how to speak or write properly. As I am learning to communicate in French at the same time as this, delving deeper into the components of language seems universally applicable in some regards even though the rules between languages may vary.
