In the Unit 3 I learned many important things, such as how a teacher can use his physical presence and voice in the classroom. For example: Moderated eye contact is essential to establishing good rapport with the students. Gestures, in general, can also be effective. I also learned about the types of classroom arrangement. The way in which you organize the position of the students is of great importance, but there is not a best seating arrangement, because it largely depends on the space available, type of chairs/tables, age of the students, nationality and the students’ personality. Orderly Rows is an example of classroom management which is particularly effective for whole class activities. In larger classes of twenty-five or more students it is often the best and only solution. There are other useful types of classroom management as well, depending on those factors mentioned above (space available, type of chairs/tables, age of the students, nationality and the students’ personality). Another important topic of the unit was 'Students groupings'. I learned that activities geared to the whole class, students working alone, pairs and larger groups are all appropriate and each has its own place in the classroom.
