The four aspects of the past tense correlate with the four aspects of the present tense. Past tenses might be easier for students to grasp if they already understand the principles from the present tense. Highlighting the forms of each tense can be helpful for students to pick out key words to ensure that they are using the proper tense for what is being communicated.
