As stated in an earlier reflection for the unit on Present Tenses, tenses in general can be very difficult. When trying to teach the difference between the past tenses, it might be helpful to have students focus on the structures. For example, Past Continuous has (+was/were. This might be an easier way for them to identify and conceptualize the difference. It also might be helpful to have students do activities that drill understanding and usage of the tenses.
