This unit contains a lot of information about the past tenses, and the rules follow in a similar manner to the present tenses. I thought the video was quite helpful and detailed and provided several excellent "activate" suggestions for teaching the past tenses. Two of the examples for teaching the past simple tense was to have the students write a brief resume and then exchange it with another student. They ask each other questions about their resumes, answering using the past simple tense. This could be altered in many ways for different language levels. Another example was "How Many People" and giving students a sheet to fill out, estimating how many people did certain things such as walked to school. After estimating their answers, students would then ask others for their answers to the questions and complete the correct answers. During their discussions with others, they would be using the past tense. Maximizing Student Talk Time and encouraging students to use language freely in ways that are fun and non-intimidating is one of the keys to teaching verb tenses. I learned a lot about the past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous that I did not know before and learned many ways to activate the lessons in teaching these forms of verbs. The unit provided a lot of examples that were very helpful.
