When teaching a new language there are a few things to consider. The age and ability of the students, teachability of the chosen vocubulary, the frequency of use, and how it relates to the chosen task. One example could be planning a party for a few friends. To engage you would decide how many people will hopefully attend, what kinds of snacks and beverages would you prepare, etc. You could ask the class for ideas and offer a few new words. To study you would prepare a gap fill excercise on food and beverage vocabulary. To activate you would split the class up into pairs and have them invite each other to the party, describe the food and possible activities, and accept or decline. There could also be discussion at the end to hear everyones ideas.
