The difference between teaching one to one and groups What are some of the difference between teaching individuals and groups? •A teacher would either teach one of the two; one to one or group of students. With one to one clients you as the teacher is able to focus more on the student for he/she is just one and in return the student would get all of the attention. However spending 60 to 90 minutes speaking and listening to one somebody can be uncomfortable at times and become boring communicating with the same person continually. •Getting to know the student is key, for once you know the student then selecting the materials would be much easier. However finding materials for this teaching can be difficult for teachers at times. Since there is one student then it is easier to know the level the student is at so you can better able to produce ideas of what to teach. •Even thou there is no group work the student can work at its own pace but the teacher would have to get involve into doing work with the student for they will have to do most of the work. •With one to one teaching it can be really difficult for teachers because most teacher train and posses the materials for teaching groups of students. One of the main differences between teaching one to one and groups is that in a one to one lesson we can direct the class towards the needs, level and capability of the student. •Students can be of any age so it depends on the age category, teachers and student can have different personalities and this can be a problem as well. Also teaching one to one reduce the level of problems such as misbehave and disturbance. •Teaching group has its fare share of advantages and disadvantages as well. In groups it is possible that there are students that are on different levels, so the teacher must make sure to find that out by grouping them. One of the ways to do so is to give a level test. Teachers would now have to be playing different roles such as monitoring the class so they don’t cause problems; avoid putting friends in the same group for they can form cliques. •In one to one teaching, the age doesn’t really matters when it comes to discipline or controlling the class as a teacher but with groups of children it can pose as a big problem for teachers. There maybe times when some students aren’t just interested on learning and will be causing disturbance in the class while others who are interested can be distracted. •Most teachers are trained in teaching groups so because of that they can find materials more easy if not provided by the school. Schools mostly have materials for this purpose thou. •With one to one teaching the teacher wherever sits is in full view of the student while in group teaching the teacher will have to ensure he or she is centered so all the students can be seen and all the students can see the teacher clearly.
