Why observation teaching is important. Observation is an important part of learning how to teach. I say this because I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in becoming a teacher. Classroom observation presents an opportunity to see real-life teachers in real-life teaching situations. Teachers are forever reflecting and making decisions, and when they see someone else in action, in as much as they are seeing someone else, they are almost simultaneously seeing themselves. This means that observation is important at every stage of a teacher’s career. Classroom observation describes the practice of sitting in on another teacher’s class to observe, learn and reflect. Various aspects of the class can be examined, such as routines, use of time, schedule, participation, teaching strategies, management strategies, learner interest, and much more. Usually we all have our own way and techniques; however it is a great opportunity for us to learn new and different techniques that may help in the classroom environment. All teachers involved, regardless whether you are a qualified teacher with years of experience or a student teacher, observation of one another gives the opportunity to dialogue with one another and learn from one another. The question to be asked here is, why participate in classroom observation? Classroom observation can often help expose teachers to new methods of teaching that might not have occurred to them beforehand. For instance many teachers are set in their own ways and get comfortable in their own unique teaching methods that they do not allow space for new and different methods. However here are some benefits for the observer: Observe new techniques, strategies, ideas and resources, gain insight into one's own strategies and techniques, observe student reactions from a different perspective; help create a professional learning community with the best interests of the students in mind, personal Professional Development and growth. There are also benefits for the individual being observed such as; A chance to see the class from someone else perspective, a chance to re-evaluate the classroom and to receive input from someone else (colleague). Allowing someone into your classroom allows for sharing of knowledge, ideas, techniques as well as self-reflection. Teachers should use one another for professional development. It is vital to keep accurate records of any observations. This is necessary in case you have a teacher who has areas of insufficiency and refuses to improve in those areas. Note that observing a teacher in the classroom is not the act to criticize one another or looking for faults, but to simply encourage the known qualities and offer new individual improvements. The emphasis of teacher observation should be student focused in order to ensure that the students succeed academically. A poor and uncooperative teacher does not promote that type of quality. Teachers should always strive to better their quality of education for all their students. Every school deserves the finest quality of education for their students and in order for that to be achieved a school full of teachers that aim to be the best version of themselves and this can all be obtained through the process of observing and being observed.
