As a center director in a language training center I think it is very important for us to learn a TEFL course. Because I think the course brief us general ideas in many different aspects. In the first unit, there are two parts. The first part is the point of view from teacher’s side to tell us somethings that the qualities a good teacher should have. Before I learned this course, I thought a good teacher is someone who only needs standard subject knowledge and a good ability of communicating with parents. But I ignored or didn’t know there are still many responsibilities and roles for teachers in the classroom. These things are so important for a center director to know before they give an interview to a candidate. It can help interviewers to establish a system with many detailed questions when they are hiring people. And it is also a basic outline of an interview. The second part in this unit is the point of view from learner’s side and the language levels of different learners. In this part, it tells us the major differences between adults and young learners. This part is very important and it can be done as a first training for a teacher who just starts with educational business. Some new teachers who just be a teacher especially a teacher with small kids always feel frustrated, because kids have their nature ways of learning a new thing. If a teacher doesn’t know this, they will think the kids are hardly controlled by teachers and some teachers will doubt about themselves if they are capable of this job. These kind of knowledge from this unit can help teachers to gain a basic ideas and calm down their anxiety with kids. In this unit it also mentioned about the language levels of different learners. When I studied this part, there was a picture in my mind about our parents in my center. Our center is teaching kids English, that means we need to help kids and parents. Many parents always come to teachers and say why after one or two - year study , my kid still have problems with grammars, vocabularies,and etc. So in this part it helps me with those questions. The knowledge in part is not only can solve parents questions but also can help schools to hold a lecture of correct parents’ wrong ideas of learning English. In the rest units until the last one, the course help teachers with detailed teaching skills. Those things can be ideas for centers to establish a management system in teaching department. And also a basic test for teachers to pass a probation. So that’s why I ask all my employees to take this course. It makes a center director’s job more easier. Through this course, employees can improved at some points and it is an authoritative way to reeducate our teachers. In one unit, there are two classes to demonstrate what is a better lesson and I would like to use it to review for my teachers. In the last unit, it says the way to test and evaluate students. But I think this is the most important part to me. Because as a school manager we should have a very clear direction on what is trunk of teaching English. The trunk is something that leads students to a correct way to get their achievement and make a school to go further in business. When school have the outline(CEFR), then we know how to choose course books. Finally, after learning this course is not only help me with my subject knowledge and skills, but also gives me ideas on how to manage a school.
